Ganesha – He is the remover of obstacles. He is the Teacher and the patron of arts and sciences. He is the lord of intellect and wisdom. He is the God of the beginnings. He is honoured at the start of every ritual or ceremony.
One of the popular eight names of Lord Ganesha in a Strota:
Pranamya shirsa devam gauri putram vinayakam,
bhaktavasam smaranitya aayu kaamardha siddhaye,
Pratham vakratundam cha, Ekdantam dwitiya kam,
tritiya krishnapindaksha, gajvakam chaturthakam,
lambodaram pancham cha, shashtha vikatmev cha,
saptam vighnarajam cha, dhumravarna tatha ashtamam.
Ganesha Chaturthi, is the day when Ganesha was born, and it is believed that the Lord bestows his presence on earth for all his devotees during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, which is for 10 or 12 days.
Devotees offer Modak and ladoo to the lord, as it is considered as one of his favourites. In Ganesha’s idol, you will see that in one of his hands, he will be holding a red or orange colored sweet, that is either a ladoo or a modaka.
